Patience Enyonam Akoni is a Partner at JP Legal and brings a distinctive combination of private practice experience and deep in-house corporate legal expertise to the firm. Called to the Ghana Bar in 2015, she has served as Company Secretary, Head of Legal & Compliance, and appointed AMLRO at SEC-regulated investment institutions — subsidiaries of a major Ghanaian banking group.
In her in-house role, Patience has managed board governance for regulated entities, led a Compliance Department, and served as the primary interface between the institutions and their regulators. She brings firsthand experience with AML/CFT/CPF programme implementation, enterprise-wide risk management, and the FATF 40 Recommendations — including participation as a focal person in Ghana’s 3rd Round FATF Mutual Evaluation.
Her practice spans corporate governance, financial services regulation, commercial agreements, securities law, and investment structuring. Before her in-house career, Patience trained at an international law firm and practised as an Associate at a reputable Ghanaian firm. She is a multilingual practitioner with professional fluency in English, French, Spanish, and several Ghanaian languages.
